Eye exams

We want you to feel at ease during your sight test, and our Optometrists will always do their best to guide you through every step. Your eye test will take around 45 minutes. You will be asked questions about your general health, lifestyle, hobbies and work. We will also want to know if you have any family history of eye health problems. If you are over 40 you will be tested for glaucoma. The test is painless and straightforward.

Children’s eye care

Children do not always realise when their vision has changed. Signs such as squinting, sitting too close to the television, struggling to see the board at school, tired eyes or headaches may suggest they need an eye examination.

Myopia, or short-sightedness, is becoming increasingly common in children and young people. Regular eye examinations can help detect changes early and support long-term eye health.

Our friendly team provides professional children’s eye care in a calm, reassuring environment.

All children under 16 years of age are entitled to a free eye test and a voucher towards the cost of glasses.

 Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES)

This is a free NHS scheme that allows people to get fast, expert assessment and treatment for recent-onset or sudden eye problems directly through us without needing a trip to the GP or A&E.

This includes:

  • Sudden vision loss or major changes in vision
  • Red or very painful eyes
  • Recently occurring flashes of light or new floaters (which can be signs of retinal issues)
  • A foreign body in the eye (something stuck)
  • Significant sticky discharge, styes, or severe watering

Enjoy Advanced Eye Care at Robinson Opticians with OCT Scanning

Your eyesight is precious, and looking after your eye health is about more than just checking if you need new glasses. That’s why we use advanced Huvitz Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology to give us an even more detailed picture of your eyes.

An OCT scan is a quick, comfortable, and completely painless test that allows us to see beneath the surface of the retina (the back of the eye). It helps us detect the early signs of eye conditions, often before you notice any changes to your vision.

Why have an OCT scan?

Many eye conditions develop slowly and don’t cause symptoms in the early stages. An OCT scan provides highly detailed images that help us spot even the smallest changes, allowing us to monitor your eye health more closely and, if needed, arrange treatment at the earliest opportunity.

The scan can help detect and monitor conditions including:

  • Glaucoma
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Diabetic eye disease
  • Changes to the retina
  • Other conditions that may affect your sight

What happens during the scan?

The scan is simple and takes just a few minutes. You’ll be asked to look into the machine while it takes detailed images using light. Nothing touches your eye, there’s no puff of air, and the test is completely painless.

If you have any questions about OCT scanning prior to your appointment, give us a call, or call in for a patient information leaflet.

Discover Clearer Vision with Our Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner – Lenses created just for you!

At our practice, we believe every pair of glasses should be as unique as the person wearing them. That’s why we use the Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner – advanced technology that helps us understand your eyes in incredible detail.

Unlike a standard eye test, the DNEye® Scanner measures your eyes at thousands of individual points, giving us a much more complete picture of how you see. This information allows us to create lenses that are tailored specifically to your eyes, helping you enjoy the clearest, most comfortable vision possible.

What does this mean for you?

  • Sharper, clearer vision throughout the day.
  • More comfortable vision when reading, driving, or using digital screens.
  • Improved contrast and clarity, especially in lower light conditions.
  • Glasses designed specifically for your eyes, not just your prescription.

A quick and comfortable experience

The scan is completely non-invasive and only takes a few moments. Simply look into the scanner while it gathers precise measurements of your eyes. There’s no discomfort, and no need to touch your eyes.

Personal care, powered by precision

We combine the latest technology with the friendly, personal service you’d expect from your local independent optician. Our goal is simple: to help every member of the family enjoy the best vision possible, with glasses that are made just for them.
